Links on Scientific Studies- Reiki and Sound

This section is a work in progress.  My goal here is to be able to fully explore how and why reiki and sound therapies work.  With this research, I have learned that reiki is a form of sound therapy as it is a particular frequency proven to be beneficial for promoting healing.  The more that I learn the more I see that we historically have understood that everything is vibration and healing with sound only makes sense.  Our language reflects this with sayings such as “she is high-strung,” “they have good vibes,” “we are in tune with each other,” “we are harmonious,” and various others.  Basically I have learned that everything at a particle level is vibration.  Using sound to reset our vibrations to a healthier low-strung, more relaxed state, gives us a range of movement and flexibility.  When tightly strung, a guitar string is more likely to snap and break when played.  The same for people.  Learning to soften and relax the body allows for emotional flexibility and adaptability for life.  The important part is taking time to silence the inner dialogue and listen to one’s internal rhythms.  When under times of great stress this is best done in guided sessions.

  • Here is a link to Dr. John Beaulieu’s website and research on the use of tuning forks and the release of NO-nitric oxide- and how it is beneficial at the cellular level.   This study provides the basis for how acupressure with the tuning fork works which is also known as acutuning.   In this article he explains how extended periods of stress adversely affect the immune system and can be linked to tumors and auto-immune disorders.     http://www.biosonics.com/uploads2011/BioSonicsStressScienceandNO.pdf
  • This abstract summarizes research about how NO is beneficial as a free-radical “scavenger” and also mentions that too much may also cause problems…which explains Dr. Beaulieu’s teaching to apply the tuning forks no more than twice. • This article links over to a study titled “Extraordinay large bio-magnetic field strength from the human hand.”  It’s a review of measurements exploring the difference between Reiki practitioners and non-Reiki practitioners.  They even measured martial artists’ biomagnetic field.                http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pub/med1353653

  • This link is on beneficial effects of 10 htz on nervous system and potentially treating depression.  I wonder why 4 htz (or cps) was not used? Hmm.  I haven’t been able to find the referenced study on the different frequencies yet either.  This study is from January of 2016.  The end result was that they found 50% reduction in the oxidative stress (5-HIAA used in blood serum in rats-this is a type of chemical in brain assumed to be a good marker that is low when less stress and high when under more stress) after the first 15 days  of daily treatments at 3 hours daily.  They found no change a 1 hour daily.  This is considered to be a good step forward in establishing ELF as potential therapeutic treatments for depression.                      http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4795953/

  • This link connects to a study on the effects of Reiki on preventing metastasis and improving immune system responses in mouse breast cancer study.  It reveals that the cancer tumor size is not reduced with reiki treatments, but it shows significant evidence that the treated subjects do not have cancer metastasis and do have improve immune system functioning.  http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/26113869

  • This links to Reiki.org most recent article on the measurement of the energy from Reiki, healing touch, Qi-Gong and other martial artists.  Pretty exciting that they have repeated measured with the SQUID instrument the fluctuations of the biomagnetic energy from the practitioner’s hand is between 0.3-30 cps but mostly 7 cps range!  Also world wide it has been accepted that there is definitely a measurable biofield since the SQUID magnetometer in the wold-wide medical community.  The USA needs to catch up.            http://www.reiki.org/reikinews/sciencemeasures.htm

Journey in Attuning the Body, Mind and Spirit

After studying world religions in college and then studying world health systems from an anthropological perspective, I decided to enter the medical field in my home town of Athens, Georgia and see what I could learn and do to help reform and improve medicine.  My journey began with studying the Mayan Curanderos of Chiapas, Mexico to assisting a chiropractor and then assisting an eye surgeon. I have learned so much!

Peruvian Curandero

With the months I spent in Mexico learning about the Mayan people, I discovered the power of the indigenous healer continued in present day.  The curandero or shaman would clean the physical body of the spirits afflicting their client with a spray of coke while sitting on the floor in a dark church with crudely formed wax candles set on the earthen floor in dried wax mounds.  Chickens wandered around and there was some hay scattered on the floor.  Visiting the church with no one there, I was aware of the power that inhabited that room.  All the people involved certainly felt a healing transformation took place.  Who was I to say any different?  The healer was not using knives, or pills, but she was using her power in ancient traditions of spiritual healing.  Why is healing the mind and spirit not as important as healing the body?  How often does our medicine in the US not work?  What are we missing?

While assisting in chiropractic I learned the focus is on realigning the spine to allow the body to heal itself.  Let the spinal fluid flow as designed and the body can heal.  This healing art has great methods to work on whole body health, wellness and pain management.  Their focus is to help prevent surgeries that Western medicine turns to when pills fail to help the patient feel better.   A good chiropractor also works with a client on muscle strength and flexibilty to prevent future injury.  They focus on helping the muscle to repair from the injury and maintain the structural balance of the body.  While fascinating and a valid healing in the right hands, I still felt this was missing a huge piece of the healing people needed.  This healing art does not tend to the Soul of the matter.

My attention then turned to Reiki in Athens, GA by chance.  I had a new job as an ophthalmic medical assistant and jumped in to learning all about the eyes.  One day my mother told me with excitement how she had twisted her ankle terribly while walking in the garden at this party.  A woman there asked if my mom would allow her to do Reiki on her ankle, as she was just learning and wished to help.  My mom said that after several minutes of Reiki, her ankle felt much better.  And by the time she left the party, she could not tell any injury remained.  Soon after I ran into a high school friend who said she taught Reiki, I set up an appointment to learn right away.   After I left the Reiki attunement, I knew it worked, but I didn’t understand how.

The next several years I spent offering to help friends and co-workers that had hurt themselves, if I felt comfortable that they would not look at me like I had lost my mind.  I was super shy with whom I would offer to help.  Once I had my children, I did Reiki for them all the time if they were scared, had a burn, couldn’t sleep or upset tummy, soothing them easily.   Reiki helped everyone feel better, it worked by seeming to accelerate healing.  Overtime I began to understand the action for healing was focus healing energy to vibrate at a higher frequency than we are normally.  It seems to increase the healing action in cells metabolically to push healing through all stages quickly.  Kids need very little Reiki time to feel better where as adults require much more.  How could I teach people about Reiki without sounding too “out there” and create a practice helping people heal?

After years of helping people to see better and spending time helping patients relax for in office procedures, I learned as an assistant I have the ability to listen to and educate the patients, while the doctor tends to the part of the body he studied, the eyes.  The amount of knowledge is incredible in medical doctors, but there is little focus on tending to the whole person.  It’s fully treating the symptoms with “lite” education on maintenance and prevention.  With all the changes in billing and healthcare regulations recently, it is near impossible to keep up with all the charting and coding necessary to actually get paid.  As an assistant, I no longer have the time to educate patients well.  Definitely a little amount of time left for patient care. So I have renewed my focus on Reiki.

The next step for me was to fully develop my Reiki skills and advance further in the healing art.  I had a Master level attunement which increase the intensity of the Reiki vibrations and frequency which meant the healing time was quicker for acute injuries.  I found a burn that turned the skin white would take 5 minutes of reiki to help push through all the phases of healing while before that  would have been 20-30 minutes.   The increased power of the healing energy I channeled also left me a bit spacey and I had to work hard to ground myself to be able to return to working with patients.  At the next opportunity, I took a class to learn even more with Karuna® Reiki.  Here is where I learned about Spiritual connections and hearing intuition.  Yet another increase in the intensity of the Reiki energy.  What a powerful experience!  And yet there is more… Karuna® reiki is attuning to the energy frequencies of the Archangels and channeling that energy here on Earth.  I was skepticle of this but once I was open to the possibilities of this being true, the ideas of where to treat and the next steps to help clients were easy to hear.  So why not?

We are missing a healing of the soul and mind in Western medicine here in the USA.  Knee hurts-here take this, does it work? No?… Inject this, still not helping? Lets cut this… no discussion of how to take care of oneself or other methods to try for healing.  If someone is playing an instrument and it is out of tune, do we throw away the whole instrument?  We would not dare trash something as expensive as a musical instrument but what about our bodies?  Why would we throw away something as precious as an organ in our bodies simply because it is out of tune? Why not tune the body to prevent disease?  Let’s reset the energetic vibration of an organ that is malfunctioning and help it to work again.

Frequency and vibrations describe not just energy waves but the movement of sound as well.  Brain entrainment through hearing binural beats is another area to explore with Sacred Acoustics.  A lesson in quantum physics helps understanding.  Here is were Reiki and sound healing overlap.  Follow this link to learn more from Alexandre Tannous, a well-known sound healer.

Many disease are from chronic inflammation preventing circulation and blocking our life energy which helps healing.  Eastern medicine focuses on this for basic wellness.  The study of Thai Chi focuses on moving the body and learning to be aware of the life energy in movement of our body.  These are things we knew as children but forgot.  In some hospitals in India they actually have musicians trained in healing through music playing for patients in recovery.  As much focus is on wellness and healing as on the disease.  This is what we need here in the USA.   We need to learn how to tune our bodies.  This is why I am bringing tuning fork therapies into my Reiki practice.  Specifically from biosonics as they show the science and technology behind the manufacturing of their tuning forks.  They are specifically designed for the overtones they transmit as well as the base frequency.  The intensions and feelings can be transmitted with the sound and carried into the body of another.   All religions and indigenous cultures have the same creation story–God spoke and created life.  A study of Cymatics -watch videos on youtube- shows how sound can truly create form in medium of water or sand.  So again why not?

It is truly quite amazing.  Come experience a session for yourself and then you decide.

Reiki and Sound Healing

In my practice, I focus on helping clients to relax, tune their bodies, and heal.  It is my job to help you remember what it felt like to have your body functioning as a whole system vibrating in tune and in harmony.  As children, most of us were able to experience health and wellness.  As adults it is easy to forget what this feels like with responsibilities and stress piling upon us.  We push away our feelings of spontaneity.  We forget to play.  We forget to sing.  We forget to dance.  Let me help you remember what well-being feels like.

Digital CameraA session with me involves a discussion of your goals, from healing aches and pains, to reaching weight loss goals, to focusing on creative writing, to breaking bad habits, or even to figuring out the source for a chronic illness… whatever you wish, your imagination is the limit.  With sound healing, the goal is to elevate your energy vibration so that you may clear heavy dense energies of fear, anger, pain, that hold you down.  Reiki is an Extremely Low Frequency (ELF) therapy that matches the frequency of the ionosphere most of the treatment.  It help by relaxing you deeply matching your rhythm to that of the planet interestingly enough.  It has been measured with biomagnetic instruments to pulse at about 7 cycles per second (cps) which almost matches the Schumann resonance.  Reiki is called energy from the heavens perhaps for a reason.

With sound healing, the vibration can break up blocks of energy where you hold pain or old injury that stops the circulation and causes disease.  The goal is to identify the heavy energy or block and release or clear it away.  This allows the body to heal and stay at the higher vibration, radiating brightness and love.  In this state we are fully connected with our body released from the inner critic.   This is a position of strength and well-being.

Once we have set the intention, we may spend a few minutes in meditation, focusing on relaxing the body, then we work with tuning your body at key acupressure points with Biosonic tuning forks if needed.  Next I will use Reiki to guide the journey home.  Your body will vibrate together with a relaxing or energizing hum.  The sense of being connected to your body will continue for many days.  A few clients report old emotional issues bubbling to the surface, for a deeper healing.  Others report that their arthritis in their knees will disappear for weeks.  I have even had some clients who suffer back pain when under stress, be able to connect the old emotion that goes with it in order to help release and help those old wounds.  You can heal yourself!

Sound healing is growing in the approaches and the methods available.  The main idea behind the sound healing is that the vibration cares the intention and carries deep into the body on an emotional and cellular level.  Everything is made up of vibratory energy and thus vibrations have the potential to heal deeply.  I have been treating the disruptions in the energy field far out from a person’s body with reiki and then slowly moving in towards the physical body to help clear them.  With chanting I have found the work is far more powerful.  If the energy disruption persists, I can focus in to help smooth it out with tuning forks and acupressure and a little bit of talking to help identify the old emotions tied in, and fill it in with the healing Reiki energy using chanting to help the feeling of compassion travel deeper.

A healing modality called Biofield Tuning uses tuning forks out in the biofield to identify disruptions and then cohere them into the energy field for healing.  This technique is incredibly powerful, and I highly recommend it for anyone who is looking for that deeper level of healing.  With a few sessions old patterns of emotions and internal dialogues are easier to identify and release.  The inner critic has a way of creeping back in and this method provides a great way to tap in and healing this aspect of the day to day existence.  Biofield Tuning is great for headaches, migranes, concussions, PTSD, chronic neck pain, back pain, slow digestion, feeling “stuck” and many more issues.

These two healing modalities I have found to be similar in the work of polishing up the energy field around a person, but with Reiki healing energy is channeled in to assist when a person is sick.  This can be very beneficial when someone has cancer, a broken bone, sprained ankle, concussion, flare up of Arthritis.  Biofield tuning is super helpful to release old patterns, old injuries, and help release the emotional baggage causing the auto-immune disorders, but during the acute phase of illness or injury Reiki is better suited.
